This year the Fiveways Artists Group celebrates 25 years of Open Houses.

This year we have 30 Open Houses featuring the work of 150 full and part time professional artists.

All our houses are open at the same time, from 11am to 5pm, every Saturday and Sunday on the four weekends in May 6-7, 13-14, 20-21, 27-28.

You can reach the Fiveways area by bus (5B, 26, 46 and 46A) or by train (there are regular services from Brighton Station to London Road Station). Click 'Houses 2006' to display a map.

Some people might find access to some of the houses difficult. Anybody with mobility issues should contact the Open House(s) they hope to visit.

As we are private homes, not businesses or galleries, most of us have not got Credit Cards facilities. However cheques with guarantee cards are welcome.

About the Group

The Fiveways Artists Group, started in 1982 by Ned Hoskins, has grown into the 30 Open Houses open in the Fiveways area. There are now 14 different art trails (206 venues) in and around Brighton & Hove, all of which are part of the Artists Open Houses (AOH) organisation.

Over the years the Fiveways Artists Group has become an integral feature of the Brighton Festival. The Group's aim is to exhibit original works of art of a high quality in an informal domestic setting. Each house has its own approach to the selection and display of its artworks, so that there is an individual character to each of them which expresses the wide range of media and style of the members and their guest artists. This makes the Fiveways Artists Open Houses a stimulating visit on a May weekend.

The members of the Fiveways Artists Group all live and work as full or part time professional artists within the Group's catchment area, which is named after the Fiveways junction on the Ditchling Road. Their guest artists are also professional artists and come from all over the country and sometimes from abroad.

Artists Open Houses (AOH) Brochure

The Fiveways Artists Group is part of the Artists Open Houses organisation.

This year more than 1000 artists are exhibiting in 206 venues all over Brighton and Hove and the surrounding area.

Open houses, studios and galleris are listed in a single 96-page brochure and most open houses are grouped geographically by 'trail'. (If you receive your brochure with Latest Homes magazine then it will be a reduced size with 48 pages).

As well as paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture you'll also find ceramics, furniture, jewellery, stained glass, clothing and cards all on sale direct from the artist, designer, maker or craftsperson. Although Open Houses are open access to all artists, local or guest, many exhibitors are professional artists, illustrators and makers with international reputations. The Brighton and Hove Artists' Open Houses model has been adopted by artists' groups and arts festivals thoughout the UK.

This year's AOH brochure will be launched at the Old Ship Hotel on Wed 5 April.

Art lovers wanting a copy of the brochure should send their details to brochureplease@aoh.org.uk or visit the website at www.aoh.org.uk
